About the Author
Patrick C. Friman, Ph.D., is Director of Clinical Services at Boys Town where he and his staff counsel hundreds of youth and families each year. He is also a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine, the author of more than 180 published scientific papers on child behavior, and a popular speaker to both professional and parent audiences.

Research-based treatments for children's bedwetting and toileting problems -- why would you try anything else?

This book is so easy to read and understand that it's great for both busy professionals and interested parents. The treatments are based on real scientific research, much of it conducted throughout Dr. Christophersen's 30-year career working with children. Perhaps best of all, he explains the physical reasons why some children have "elimination problems." For example, a child may refuse to potty in the toilet because it hurts for terribly constipated children to do so! Why hasn't anyone explained it that way before?! The treatments are equally straightforward. More fiber in the children's diet, more fluids, more exercise, a little bit of over-the-counter medicine on a temporary basis and a lot of positive coaching by the parent. This kind of common sense approach really appeals to me, and I found the case studies informative and very reassuring. Every pediatrician should have and read this book. Every parent of a child with these problems should find a health practitioner who is familiar with this research! Why would anyone administer heavy duty prescriptions when these practically medicine-free (and analysis-free) methods work so well!
