About the Author
Roberto Caballero is an award-winning creative director and marketing strategist. His marketing campaign for Philippine Airlines, "The Beauty of the Philippines," won CLIO Awards two years in a row. He directed the opening of the Philippine Center on 5th Avenue in New York, and served as Asia Pacific chairman of Worldwide Partners.
Elizabeth V. Reyes is a travel, arts and feature writer for various Asian magazines. She is the author of many books on Philippine design and architecture, including her groundbreaking Filipino Style.
Luca Invernizzi Tettoni, an internationally acclaimed photographer, lived and worked in Asia from 1973 until 2013. Among his many books on Asian culture are Tropical Asian Style, Thai Style, and Filipino Style .

Tuttle Publishing's new coffee table book Decorating With Flowers is an intoxicating visual treat that captures breathtakingly beautiful and innovative arrangements of flowers through the photography of Luca Invernizzi Tettoni. The accompanying text by Elizabeth V. Reyes and Roberto Caballero provides commentary and background on the floral entrepreneurs who've carved a niche for themselves among wealthy Filipinos by designing exquisite flower decorations for their dinner parties, weddings, baptisms, family reunions, funerals, political gatherings or significant business events such as launching a new product, or introducing or bidding farewell to an important executive.
To create the book, various architecturally outstanding houses in the Philippines, mainly in the greater Manila area, were chosen as settings for the floral engineers--as they are sometimes referred to in the book--to stage their flower arrangements, using glass, metal, wood, ceramic, porcelain, organic and other vessels and containers. The book provides helpful ideas that readers can attempt to duplicate in their own quests for style, beauty and whimsy; it's also another welcome counterpoint to the often dreary images the rest of the world might have of the Philippines after decades of media reports on the country's extensive urban slums, problems with corruption, and gaping disparity between its rich and poor. Moneyed Filipinos and upwardly mobile overseas Filipino workers, in particular, should own this elegant book as they can appreciate it as a showcase of the creative artists and beautiful things that do indeed exist in the Philippines in spite of its enormous problems. For ordinary Western middle-income readers, Decorating With Flowers can serve as an informative introduction to life among the more artistic and richer Filipinos, as well as a paean to the exuberance of nature offered in both the rarest Philippine orchids and the most common roadside grass --- a floral study in contrasts.

Dazzling!

"Decorating with Flowers" offers a dazzling display of Filipino ingenuity. The central theme is the creative use of the country's abundance of year-round tropical flora, its color, texture and unique forms. Floral sculptures employ ornamental fruits, vegetables, unusual vases, dried pods and inventive applications of other native materials. Also incorporated are local and indigenous craft, fine art and architecture, all arranged with objects from around the world.
Reading "Decorating with Flowers" has inspired me to look with fresh eyes in my own (non-tropical) garden for non-traditional uses of plants and to spice up my usual and tired habits of arranging flowers.

Fabulous!

What a feast for the eyes and the soul! First, the florists chosen for this book created stunning arrangements (even on chandeliers) and used unusual materials (seed pods, vegetables, dried vines) that sparked my creativity. Second, the homes in which the flower arrangements were presented were themselves true works of art, full of Oriental and modern furnishings. And finally, the table arrangements showed off the owners' collections of gorgeous china, silver and glassware. All in all, what a glorious book!
