After a fight in which he nearly kills a neo-Nazi, the antihero main character flees to the other end of the continent with a prisoner he knew from Earth—a Mexican anarchist and fellow musician—on a Gulliver's Travels–type journey through a number of political and religious cult compounds. With comical depictions of the various cults they encounter on the way, Free Radicals insightfully explores the often-failed attempts at utopia and the day-to-day life of two traveling musicians.

This is a swashbuckling romp for the adult brain

I hate to admit I did not get my copy of "Free Radicals" through Amazon, but this deserved a review to describe the fun romp this provides for those who enjoy swashbuckling sci-fi that making serious point or two about the thoughts and minds of men.
This is a piece that could have come fresh from the pens of the old "Amazing Stories" authors' best days -- leaving you with ideas, a chuckle and wanting a sequel. Zeke Teflon knows how to poke at some basic assumptions of belief systems that the common man with the rigid structures some societies and beliefs would impose onthose individuals who refuse to live in lock-step, goose-step, or even dub-step without their own daily imprint of individuality.
I sure hope there IS more to come in this saga of individualism and its abrasions with "regular" society and thinking. GC

standing ovation!

I got a kick out of this epic road trip on an Earth-like prison planet, populated by all manner of insular communities, each practicing an extreme brand of misguided ideology. Except for one. The quest to reach this community with the most sensible approach to life is fraught with danger (and laughs). The author clearly knows the varied subject matter, from music, to science, to human nature. Lots of raw entertaining dialogue and weapons ranging from stone-age spears to laser guns. A finale scene has me anxiously awaiting a sequel!
Includes a handy glossary of Spanish words and phrases used throughout.

Great Read

Anarchism, Nazis, interplanetary travel, scientific insight, sex, drugs, and a lot of rock n' roll are all present in Free Radicals. The book represents everything that is great about the SF genre in that it incorporates a lot of complex ideas without any pretension and isn't afraid to have some fun with the reader. Fans of Iain Banks, especially, will like this one.
