Evading capture, and with access to remnants of the regime’s wealth, Axmann had enough followers to reestablish the Nazi party in the very heart of Allied-occupied Germany—and position himself to become dictator of a Fourth Reich.
U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps Officer Jack Hunter was the perfect undercover operative. Fluent in German, he posed as a black marketeer to root out Nazi sympathizers and saboteurs after the war, and along with other CIC agents uncovered the extent of Axmann’s conspiracy. It threatened to bring the Nazis back into power—and the task fell to Hunter and his team to stop it.

Review
Praise for The Axmann Conspiracy
"The Axmann Conspiracy is a well-documented history but reads like a thriller. In our troubled age, when anti-semitism is on the rise, this account of a would-be Fourth Reich and the men who foiled it is as timely as it is chilling and engrossing.”—Dean Koontz
“Selby’s account, of the soulless Nazi fanatics who slithered about the ruins of Germany seeking not survival but resurgence and restoration, unfolds as if in real time, vivid and chilling.”—Hugh Ambrose, author of The Pacific
“The Axmann Conspiracy is a true story…never before told in such extraordinary detail. The Nazi plot to resurrect a Fourth Reich from the ashes of Berlin has all the elements of a great spy thriller.”—Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi, bestselling authors of The Monster of Florence
“Astonishing…Selby recounts this true story with the excitement, tension, and drama of a spy novel. It is an authentic tour de force, done with great skill and accuracy.”—Bevin Alexander, author of Inside the Nazi War Machine
“How many novelists have imagined some diabolical villain who seeks the resurrection of the Nazis? None do justice to the heart-thumping true story of Axmann and his aim to do just that…Selby recounts this history with zeal and narrative verve.”—Neal Bascomb, author of Hunting Eichmann
“Gripping…With the deft hand of a skilled researcher, Scott Selby brings to life one of the lost stories of World War II. A must read.”—Gregory A. Freeman, author of The Forgotten 500
“Parts of The Axmann Conspiracy read like something out of a LeCarré spy novel.”—Jim DeFelice, author of Omar Bradley: General at War
“A fascinating true story of insurgent Nazism with characters and twists as engrossing as any espionage novel.”—Matthew Pearl, author of The Poe Shadow

Interesting story about the aftermath of WWII in Germany
By Debbie
"The Axmann Conspiracy" is about what happened in Germany after Hitler committed suicide and how American Counter Intelligence officers uncovered and defeated the attempt by high-level Nazis to reestablish Nazi influence after the end of the war. Though Axmann was the one who got it all started, he was in hiding after the fall of Berlin. It was his fellow Hitler Youth officers--following his initial orders--that did most of the secret rebuilding of Nazi power.
The book started with Hitler committing suicide and the attempt by some of the surviving Nazis to escape Berlin before the Russians could capture them. We also got a biography of Axmann and of Hunter. The story continued with how the American CIC found out about the "Axmann Conspiracy," what they did, what Axmann was doing, what the Nazi group was doing, and how it all came together in the end.
It's clear that the author did his research and that he wanted to share all the interesting things he learned. The story routinely sidetracked from the main point or action into interesting but unnecessary detail. For example, we're told the names of all the medals Axmann had received and what they were for as a part of his biography. But we're also told what each medal looked like, which served no purpose in the overall story. This slowed the pacing, so don't expect a fast-paced, action-focused story.
The author also jumped from one group to another to tell what each was doing at that time. He gave a recap of who was who and what they had last being doing to make sure the reader didn't get confused. While useful, it creates a lot of repetition for those who are able to keep track of everything. Overall, though, the information included was very interesting and the action was suspenseful due to all the things that could go wrong.
There were 27 black and white photographs and charts included in the center of the book. They showed what people looked like, what places looked like, and otherwise illustrated what was going on in the text.
I'd recommend this book to those interested in the aftermath of WWII in Germany and to those who like to read about real Intelligence work.
I received this book as a review copy from the publisher.

Well-researched Story of Nazis and US Army Counter Intelligence Agents
By ScanMyPhotos
The Axmann Conspiracy: This will become a Hollywood blockbuster film.
Much has been written about WWII, but little on the tumultuous end days of the war, when Hitler was running what little was left of his forces out of a bunker in Berlin. Even less has been written about what happened in the immediate aftermath of Hitler's death and the first year of the Allied Occupation of Germany. This well-research, well-written book by upcoming author Scott Andrew Selby takes us into that time as we follow Artur Axmann, head of the Hitler Youth, from his days with Hitler in the bunker, to his dramatic escape from the Soviet troops fighting to capture the bunker, and his eventual leadership of a well-organized group of former Hitler Youth adult leaders who seek to gain power and eventually bring Germany back into a Nazi form of government. Meanwhile, we meet Jack Hunter, a CIC agent, and later best-selling novelist, who seeks to stop him.
I found myself captivated by this book and could not put it down. I had read and enjoyed Selby's previous book, Flawless: Inside the Largest Diamond Heist in History, and felt that this had a similar feel to it. Highly recommended.

Another gem from Scott Selby
By Jeremy Sirota
I thoroughly enjoyed Scott Selby's first book, Flawless, and I'm glad to see that he's continuing to write. He has an easy style that is highly readable, but thoroughly engaging at the same time. Axmann was an unexpected subject matter given his first book, but a really interesting subplot to WWII. Every time I think there's nothing left to explore about that time period, something like Axmann comes along to prove me wrong. I think anyone who's a history buff, enjoys conspiracy books, or likes thriller novels will enjoy this book. It's seriously fun and enjoyable serious!
