Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, a little weird…

The Wird sisters are different from every race on earth—human and supernatural. When human society is no longer an option for them, they move in among the resident vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region. Could this be the true home they’ve longed for? Um, not quite. After the sisters accidentally strip a witch of her powers in a bar brawl, they soon realize the mistake will cost them. Because to take on a witch means to take on her coven. And losing the battle isn’t an option.

Includes a preview of the first full-length novel in the Weird Girls series, Sealed with a Curse—as well as introductions to the Weird World, and a letter from the author.

Great New Series!
By Fangdangled
Wow, this little book reads like a full length novel, on steroids! It does much more than just set up the series; it is an awesome stand alone story that is one wild ride. I was hooked on like the second page and amazed at the gamut of emotions I experienced in just a short amount of time. What a great introduction to Cecy Robson's new Weird Girls Series! The sisters are each unique and uniquely powerful. The story is told through Celia's POV. She is the oldest and a complex character with real depth. She will stop at nothing to protect the ones she cares about and she is a powerful force to mess with. The witches in the story, and specifically the head witch, are refreshingly mean and interesting. I really loved this little gem and must say I am hooked!

Mark my words, Ms. Robson will make her name known in no time with this
great UF series ~Under the Covers

The Weird Girls is an amazing prequel to a new series. This new and upcoming author knows how to deliver suspense, humor, action and it's a surprise that she is just coming out with a novella/novel now. Mark my words, Ms. Robson will make her name known in no time with this
great UF series.

Celia, Taran, Shayna and Emme Wird's parents were cursed and the end results are four children with very special powers. Not necessarily fitting into a specific faction; not just humans, not quiet witches, nor vamps or wolves, the Wird sisters did not have it easy growing up.
They were never the in crowd and even now as adults, the mean girls still treated them as outcasts. But the sisters are tired of it all and had found a life in a serene town of Lake Tahoe. And they will do anything and everything to protect the lives they had come to enjoy even if it means battling a coven of witches. I'm afraid to give too much but bottom line is these girls are down to earth, funny as hell, protect each other and totally kick ass heroines.

Ms. Robson is a new author to watch out for! Her writing is superb and she kept the book flowing with intrigue from the heartfelt Dear Reader until the end of this short story. I can't tell you enough how excited I am with this series. These sisters are one to keep an eye out for in the Urban Fantasy genre.

If you like Amanda Carlson's Full Blooded, Kendra Leigh Castle's Dark Dynasty series and Cassie Alexander's Edie Spence Series, you will love this The Weird Girls.

Wonderful start to bring you into a new magic filled world with four sisters stuck in it.
By MelHay
The four sisters are celebrating finally finding a place to call home since leaving New Jersey two years ago. Such a place found in Lake Tahoe. Somehow trouble and men find the girls, yet Celia is feared at a glance as human's realize instinctively there's a predator inside, with fighting and upsetting one witch by breaking her power talisman. After a phone call Celia makes to her paranormal expert friend, she learns with one witch comes a whole coven, now with their eyes out waiting for them to show in the new home area they thought would be safe. When the witches come, Celia makes a claim and fights for her sisters against the leader of the coven. Celia will have three challenges to face for her and her sisters to stay safe in their home. As long as Celia can win, but at what costs?

We learn what each girl's abilities are, as a result of a backfired curse on their mother. Boy do we learn about these four ladies! The history details here with each and their parents, and their abilities. I wonder how much of this will come to surface again in the first novel. That the world, knowing or unknowingly senses it, doesn't accept weird and Celia, Taran, Shayna, and Emme are just that. Weird. Something that doesn't exist even in the supernatural world of vampires, werewolves, and witches. Great setting of the characters here.

Right off the bat we start with a fight with a witch. We see weaknesses in each girl, but they can work together to win. As the story goes we see the strengths as well, and that they avoid the supernatural world as much as they can. These four sister stick together and stand up for each other, protect and fight for each other. They are all they have. We learn how they suffered and fought through school and how people, magical or not, sense they are different and fight or torment them, or at least try too.

This novella sets the stage for these ladies as a whole and individually. They come out kicking and swinging.

This novella is from Celia's point of view. Celia is the eldest and is the one that goes through an ordeal with the three challenges to try and save her sisters. There are quick sarcastic snarky remarks through the read. It gives a feel of Celia's personality, strong and has a sense of humor that's dry and could be negative but I like this humor. Celia's not all roses, she does have a tigeress inside after all, and I like that about her. Being that they stay out of the supernatural world as much as possible, they don't know what to expect or do with the three challenges. These ladies might be a product of the magical world, but they avoid it or at least try to.

There are hints of things here that I do hope and look forward to learning more about. Like Celia and her dream man. Sounds like there is more there than she or I know. I would like to learn more! There are things hinted at with each lady that I'd like to see more about.

Veeeery good novella to give you a feel of these weird ladies, where they came from and what they are capable of. I do look forward to seeing more of this in the novels to come.

Felt the author rambled about either rhetorical nonsense or basic common knowledge on Bob Dylan. Not one thing new or revealiin
By Howar
Felt the author rambled on about basic common Bob Dylan knowledge and/or basic common sense approaches to life that Dylan incorporated into his life. Not one revealing item about Dylan that I did not already know and I'm not an avid Bob Dylan follower, just a music fan who thought this book might be interesting, which it was not.

Don't Forget About this Book
By K. Baker
As a life-long follower of Dylan I have read many (I doubt most) of what has been written about the man and his music. Friedman has gone where none of the others have gone and provided insight into Dylan and his influence on not just the music world, but our world as a whole. He provides a well thought out narrative of the life and times that Dylan has waltzed through and given readers a context which we can each relate to our own journey. It is not a book written to impress us with the writer's deep analysis of why Dylan is Dylan, rather it is written by a man who understands the relationship Dylan has to each of us even if it is indirect. Friedman certainly knows the life and times of Bob Dylan, but he is not trying to flaunt an academic twist on a man whose life defies definition and explanation. I have enjoyed reading a book about Dylan that talks to the everyday fan who has a unique relationship with the Dylan mystique. Friedman understands that Dylan is not one thing to everyone and that he is many things, all different, to many people. Well done Jon and I hope you have another book in store for us about the most influential person of the 20th and 21st century.

Forget about Forget About Tomorrow
By Amazon Customer
As a Dylan fan I was very much looking forward to this book. I am familiar with the author, as I have enjoyed his commentary on Market Watch, etc. Unfortunately the book was a major disappointment. Rather than offering any new perspective on Dylan's life and career, it was the most redundant, repetative read in memory. Each and every chapter dealt with how Dylan has continually re-invented himself and has never been satisfied with the status-quo. Any casual fan already knows this. It actually felt like I was reading the same chapter over and over. This book requires no more than perhaps one hour to read cover to cover. Don't waste your 60 minutes!

From Booklist
Greenlaw (Seaworthy, 2010) veers from her more traditional fishing tales in this intimate memoir that proves without a doubt that it takes a village to raise a child. Set on her beloved home of Isle au Haut, off the coast of Maine, Greenlaw’s chronicle is about discovering a child in trouble and doing the necessary but difficult work to save her. Writing in the same bracing manner as in her high-seas adventures, Greenlaw relates how a new island resident misrepresented himself and his “adopted” daughter and the chaos that ensued as the truth was slowly revealed. In the midst of her own low-key midlife crisis, and at odds about her romantic relationship and professional future, both on the sea and off, she considers herself an unlikely candidate for parental stand-in. But as the island does its own collective soul searching, she finds herself pondering a future she never envisioned. With newfound poignancy, Greenlaw addresses family and kinship in a clear-eyed manner that defies expectations and should easily bring her new fans. Book clubs will want to take note. --Colleen Mondor

Her best book since her incredible THE HUNGRY OCEAN
By Bill Baker
This is Linda Greenlaw's best book since her first hand account of the `perfect storm', The Hungry Ocean - the true account of that freak hurricane that Sebastian Junger got second hand from those on the shore.

Fans of Linda Greenlaw will recognize many of the same themes from her many other books - including her fabulous cook books she did with her mom - the tug of the sea, her incredible self sufficiency, her need for others - many of us share these needs.

This book is as fraught with danger and possible loss of life as her Hungry Ocean - she has chronicled in her heart felt and truly universal
experiences what many - most? - parents endure raising a child through the turbulent teenage years.

But Linda Greenlaw, taking a neighbor's `niece' under her care, and then when the girl's situation was dire, becoming her guardian, and so a real sense, saving a life and in a sense fulfilling her own is one of courage, sacrifice, and a love perhaps only a parent, whether birth parent or not, can know.

Linda Greenlaw knows this love. It saves lives. And this book may be helpful to others and thus the rich title, Lifesaving Lessons. We can all use `lessons' such as these in how to love one another.

We have met the diminutive young Linda, fishing for big-game swordfish in the North Banks of the Atlantic, fighting the frigid seas, dealing with poachers, fellow competitors and the law in her prior bestselling books. We have seen her softer side through her memories of growing up on Isle au Haut, a windblown, sparsely populated island off the coast of Maine.

Now we meet the mid-life crisis Linda, 40-something, confronting the reality that neither marriage nor children are in her future. Her companionable longtime relationship with Simon is flagging. She owns up to being a self-absorbed, adventure-seeking, fiercely independent game fisherman and author, all of which are lonely pursuits. When a new business venture, a partnership in a bait-seining operation ends up quite literally on the rocks, Linda faces reality. The backbreaking lobstering business is petering out, swordfishing is once again legal but so seasonal that it no longer pays the bills, and writing is at once her greatest love and her nemesis. She is at a crossroads and worse, suffering from writer's block.

As a favor to a newcomer to the island whose 14-year old niece is home from boarding school for the summer, she hires the troubled young girl, Mariah. Mariah is a good worker, but clearly dislikes the fishing business. They don't connect, and Linda is relieved when Mariah returns to the mainland in the fall. Meanwhile, Linda's long relationship with the man in her life is at a dead end. He is many years older, and while she gladly would have settled down for marriage and children early on, their adventurous relationship is largely fun and games, and she realizes that domestic life has passed her by.

So begins the long winter of her discontent as she comes to grips with reality. With Mariah and the summer people leaving for sunny climes, she opts for staying on the island for the winter instead of heading for Vermont and traveling with Simon. There, the isolation and loneliness serves only to amplify the emptiness of her future; for the first time, she begins to question her choices.

When Mariah returns the next summer, Linda and the other island women observe that something is amiss in the relationship between the girl and her uncle. When the uncle is arrested for drunkenness, the women rally to help her, and since Linda has the only empty bedroom, she reluctantly gives the girl a place to bunk.

Linda writes with pathos and humor about the tenuous relationship that develops as the horrific truth about the girl's uncle comes to light. As the profile of pedophilia and abuse is exposed, and her uncle is arrested, Mariah, long ago abandoned by her mother and family in Kentucky, needs permanent shelter. Linda finds herself the most logical temporary haven in Mariah's chaotic life and ultimately agrees to be her legal guardian.

Linda is suddenly plunged into parenthood. She is fortunate to still have Simon and her own family and friends as backup. Any parent of a teenager will recognize the challenges that adolescence presents, but how many can imagine what it's like to begin that relationship three-fourths of the way to adulthood with a troubled stranger? Later, they joke about their shaky beginnings. When asked how she happens to be living with the famous Linda Greenlaw, Mariah responds: "I told her that I was in need of some major nagging and that you needed a pain in your ass, and that both of our needs were being met." Then Mariah asked how Linda answered the same question. Linda writes, "I tell them that the stork left you on my doorstep when you were fifteen."

As Linda and Mariah evolve into a mother/daughter relationship, and Mariah (not her real name) is all in favor of writing this story, her hope is that "this book will inspire or give strength to some other young victims to break out of their cycle of abuse."

Teen Age Girls are the Pits
By A Rochester
Linda who is a fearless and strong woman is almost defeated by a teen age girl. Makes sense, teen girls are a formidable foe. Greenlaw struggles with Mariah, but also with this book. She was in her comfort zone writing about Isle au Haut, fishing and her family. The small island comes through as real, as do the 50 people on the island. She is competent and able when the ocean is involved. But the moods and the attitudes of a disturbed teen are a whole new experience. Of course, this is what the book is about. Mariah, an abused child, comes to live with Linda. I felt Linda's distress and helplessness. The book lacked warmth and compassion as LInda told the story of their relationship. I saw a spark in the narrative toward the end. I had the feeling that the story was not easy for her to tell. Also, felt the struggle was not completely over.

Confronting Ecological Crisis in Appalachia and the South: University and Community PartnershipsFrom The University Press of Kentucky

Throughout Appalachia corporations control local economies and absentee ownership of land makes it difficult for communities to protect their waterways, mountains, and forests. Yet among all this uncertainty are committed citizens who have organized themselves to confront both external power holders and often their own local, state, and federal agents. Determined to make their voice heard and to improve their living conditions, newfound partnerships between community activists and faculty and students at community colleges and universities have formed to challenge powerful bureaucratic infrastructures and to protect local ecosystems and communities.

Confronting Ecological Crisis: University and Community Partnerships in Appalachia and the South addresses a wide range of cases that have presented challenges to local environments, public health, and social justice faced by the people of this region. Editors Stephanie McSpirit, Lynne Faltraco, and Conner Bailey, along with community leaders and their university partners, describe stories of unlikely unions between faculty, students, and Appalachian communities in which both sides learn from one another and, most importantly, form a unique alliance in the fight against corporate control. Confronting Ecological Crisis is a comprehensive look at the citizens and organizations that have emerged to fight the continued destruction of Appalachia.

""Each of the 11 short chapters chronicles a collaborative project, is extensively documented, and is well written by both activists and academics, making for interesting reading." -- A.A. Hickey, Choice" --

The Victory of Love, by Adrienne von Speyr

The mystic von Speyr provides profound and original meditations on each verse of St. Paul's rich summary of the meaning of the Christian faith. The eighth chapter of St. Paul's letter to the Romans, a radiant trumpet-call in the tremendous symphony of the Pauline writings, proclaims the ultimate victory of the love of God through Christ in the Holy Spirit in the faithful united as the Church. In our age, which has become focused on the darker side of man, von Speyr shows how the Christian needs nothing more urgently than the courage, inspiration and hope that God offers to us through these writings of St. Paul.

Ask George Anderson: What Souls in the Hereafter Can Teach Us About Life, by George Anderson, Andrew Barone

Understand the importance and meaning of your life’s journey here on Earth—with the guidance and perspective of the souls in the hereafter.

For nearly fifty years and more than thirty-five thousand sessions, George Anderson, widely considered the world’s greatest living medium, has listened to those who have crossed to the other side. He has bridged the worlds of the here and the hereafter by communicating messages of hope from loved ones who have passed on, in order to help bring peace to those who continue on earth. But the souls can offer so much more than proof that there is something beyond this world. They can offer answers and practical advice about issues we struggle with daily: our finances, relationships, personal matters, and questions of faith. Having lived through the struggles we now face, they can also assure us that life’s problems are not random; they happen to each of us as part of a greater purpose and plan.

Ask George Anderson shares the most common questions clients ask and reveals the illuminating answers that the souls have provided on issues and concerns of our everyday life here on earth. They are invaluable lessons that will enrich all our lives because they’re imparted from a profound and rare perspective: that of the souls who have already lived it and learned from it.

About the Author
GEORGE ANDERSON not only works in the United States conducting seminars, lectures, and private appointments, he also has found wide appeal in Europe, Asia, and South Africa. He was the first medium in history to appear regularly on a cable television show, the first medium to gain international exposure for his extraordinary ability, and the only medium to be cleared by Network Television Standards and Practices to appear on the first-ever primetime special on mediumship, Contact: Talking to the Dead. He is the only living medium to have been invited to Holland by surviving members of the family of Anne Frank, and remains the most scientifically tested medium on Earth.. Anderson has been featured in newspapers and on television and is the New York Times bestselling author of Walking in the Garden of Souls and George Anderson’s Lessons from the Light.

ANDREW BARONE is executive director of the George Anderson Grief Support Programs and a cofounder of the Foundation of Hope, an organization that helps bring the comfort and solace of bereavement programs into communities across the United States and around the world. A former classical pianist, he has dedicated his skills and life experiences to helping others gain a better understanding of matters related to loss and dying and to furthering the acceptance of mediumship as a bona fide grief therapy. He is the coauthor of the New York Times bestseller Walking in the Garden of Souls and George Anderson’s Lessons from the Light.

There is nothing more you need...
By Terri
I will not be able to emphasize this enough, so I will say it very simply: There is nothing more you need to know other than George Anderson speaks the truth. If you truly want to know what happens when you die, look no further than the books George has written. Better yet, start with the two books written ABOUT George: "We Don't Die" and "We Are Not Forgotten." These two will introduce you to George's abilities and will give you great comfort if you are hurting. Then read the books that George and his co-authors have written, and end with this book. This book is a great Q&A that I consider a handbook of sorts, a reference guide to the hereafter.

There are many others who have his gift, to be sure, but George puts it so simply and so beautifully. And you will believe George because he has no agenda other than to bring comfort to those who are in pain. He simply relays to the world what the souls who have gone before us want us to know. And basically it is this: There is no such thing as death. Life continues and it is beautiful. And your loved ones who have passed on are closer to you now than they could ever have been, even when they were physically in your arms. Your parents, your friends, your children, your spouse - even your beloved pets - will NEVER leave your side.

One word of warning: If you are entrenched in your religious beliefs, you will have difficulty believing George. Every religion, Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc., etc., believes that THEIR way is the ONLY way, that THEIR truth is the ONLY truth. But if you read George's books and let the souls speak to your heart, your heart will KNOW the truth and you will never be the same. You don't need religion and, in fact, you don't even need George, and he himself will tell you so...all you need is what the souls say to your heart. That is it. And that is enough.

But don't take my word for it. You owe it to yourself to find out! And I will meet you in the hereafter, give you a big smile and hug, and say to you, "I told you so!"

There is your life BEFORE George Anderson, then there is your life AFTER you have a reading with him...
By Michael Samuels
I have had many readings with George Anderson for 10 plus years. My parents have had readings for over 30 years. My grandparents (who have passed on) had readings with George Anderson. My wife, my sister-in-law, my brother, my uncles, aunts, neighbors, and friends, have ALL had readings with George Anderson - all due to us spreading his gospel. Everything he has told my family and friends in over three decades has been THE TRUTH. He has guided me along my path in life and I continually look to his readings as inspiration. His readings are life-changing and filled with hope and excitement. He is real. The souls are real. His books are real. 'Ask George Anderson' is everything you want to know about THE TRUTH with souls. He is the final say in LIFE. Get this book. Read it. Get a reading with him in person, or by phone. Then read the book again. There is your life BEFORE George Anderson, then there is your life AFTER you have a reading with him. He has told me things that NO ONE on this planet could have known - NOT EVEN ME - and they all came true. He has told me about my career in transportation, my soul mates, my love of family, the new businesses we are starting, and the excitement of living my life on a daily basis. He has shown me symbols (gambling and casinos) that play a very important role in my life. He told my family about our expansion out west. Actually, I'm too kind - it's not George who is telling me this - it's my grandparents Carole and Roman who have told me this. George is just the vessel. But a damn good one at that. He is an amazing person, full of character, and humble to a fault. He has touched my life in ways that are indescribable. Buy this book. Buy ALL of his books. And most importantly - change your life by going to a reading. You will start living life after the session is over. George - Thank you for touching my family and being such a big part of our lives. - Michael

My family has had a series of deaths in the family this year, and we found this book profoundly helpful in coming to terms with our grief. It is on my list of life changing literature. God bless George Anderson

From The New England Journal of Medicine
Men die several years earlier than women. They have more health-risk behaviors and see physicians less often than women. Yet there are few medical books about men's health, whereas those about women's health abound. I was able to find only one other book for physicians, published by Oxford University Press in 1998, specifically about men's health (Tom O'Dowd and David Jewell, editors. Men's Health). So the publication of a comprehensive textbook on this subject might be, as Acheson suggests in the foreword, "a major literary event." Whether or not it is that, this book is a landmark. It begins to define a field.

Are there so few medical books about men's health because men, unlike women, have too few health problems they can call their own? The contents of this book reflect what the editors believe is the domain of men's health. Disorders of the male sex organs (specifically, the prostate, penis, and testes) provide the strongest justification for a separate field. Prostate cancer is the second most frequent cancer among men, and just about everything about it -- tests to screen for it, the natural history of the disease, and the effects of treatment -- remains controversial. Prostatic hyperplasia is common among older men, and there are many options for its management. Prostatitis is also frequent and troublesome, and the causes and management of most cases are uncertain. As for erectile dysfunction, one could argue that the introduction of highly effective drugs for treating it launched the men's health movement. The editors give these disorders, which occur only in men, center stage.

The inclusion of other diseases in a book on men's health is justified by their high frequency among men relative to women. For instance, the male-to-female ratio for inguinal hernia requiring surgery is 12:1 (for good anatomical reasons), and for the incidence of duodenal ulcer the ratio is 4:1. The chapter on suicide points out that although women attempt suicide at least three or four times as frequently as men, four times as many men as women die by suicide each year. The frequency of disease does matter, because a higher prior probability of disease affects the choice and interpretation of diagnostic tests. But the argument that these diseases are special in men would be more convincing if they had a different presentation, natural history, or treatment in men. For the most part, however, they do not.

Many other conditions seem to be included in this book simply for completeness, because they occur as commonly in men as they do in women. Among them are conditions related to cigarette smoking, cardiovascular diseases, and sports injuries. A chapter on osteoporosis reminds readers that diseases usually associated with women often occur in men, too. These diseases are described as they might be in a textbook on primary care, thus indirectly weakening the case for men's health as a separate field.

The social and emotional problems of men, such as risk taking and suicide, are well presented. An attempt to define the male menopause, however, is largely unconvincing. The author of this chapter acknowledges that "there is no finite event, symptom or measurement by which the male menopause can be identified." As is usual in medicine, the physical aspects of disease are given more attention than the emotional aspects. The discussion of sexuality is mainly about erection, orgasm, and infertility, and there is little information about libido and the effects that fatigue, anxiety, and marital strife can have on sexuality.

For those of us who love books, this one is exceptionally well prepared. The fonts are large and crisp, and the layout open and inviting. Colorful illustrations convey key information effectively; for example, there are figures showing nine causes of enlargement of the scrotum, the various presentations of groin hernias, and several types of penile prosthetic implants.

The editors and authors of this book come from both sides of the Atlantic and from several specialties, yet the coverage is remarkably uniform and balanced. Basic anatomy and physiology have a comfortable place beside clinical and epidemiologic information. However, the partition of information among the chapters is idiosyncratic. "Diet, Fat and Cancer of the Prostate" has its own chapter, whereas all the other information about prostate diseases is crammed into another single chapter, where there is not enough space to describe each disease effectively. Scrotal masses are included in the chapter entitled "Lumps, Lesions and Skin Cancer." Many abbreviations seem unnecessary (for example, RMH for Royal Marsden Hospital) or have no commonly understood meaning (for example, MSM for men who have sex with other men).

Although the book includes references, it falls short of the best up-to-the-minute, evidence-based medicine. Evidence from randomized trials, where it exists, is not highlighted, and the performance of diagnostic tests is not described quantitatively, in terms of sensitivity and specificity (or likelihood ratios). Systematic reviews are rarely mentioned. Major references dealing with the natural history and symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia, such as the excellent monograph prepared by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Diagnosis and Treatment. Clinical Practice Guideline. No. 8. AHCPR publication no. 94-0582. Washington, D.C., 1994), are omitted, as are authoritative guidelines.

This book makes the case for a special body of knowledge about men's health. Does it mark the advent of a separate field, such that we will be "Setting up a Well Man Clinic in Primary Care," as the title of the last chapter suggests? I hope that the effect is not to split patients up in yet another way, as they now are split up according to organ, age, and technique (such as medical treatment or surgery). Rather, I hope that this book, and others to follow, will help all of us, especially generalists, take better care of men than we have in the past.
