About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain were already successful cartoonists for magazines and adult humor books when they began writing children's books. The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 360 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 300 million copies have been sold. What began as an idea sparked by their young sons' love of reading has become one of the best-selling children's book series ever.

Good for Young Children

I really enjoy reading the Berenstain Bears books to my two children (ages 5 & 7). They do a wonderful job of modeling important life lessons. This book shows how one little incident can snowball into a big fight, and sometimes even draw parents into an argument.
My only disappointment: I wish the authors had shown the cubs apologizing to each other. The story ends with, "So Brother and Sister Bear hugged and made up. And got along just beautifully-until the next time, anyway." The story shows them fighting, so it would have been better balanced if they had also modeled the "making-up" process. When the cubs realize that they don't remember what started the fight, they simply stop fighting. Mama & Papa do not have to sit through a whole "who wronged whom" session.
Anyway, it is a good springboard for discussion of "what would you do?" and "why do you think s/he did that?" with young children. I would definitely recommend it.

Those battling Bears!

"The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight," by Stan and Jan Berenstain, is another wonderful entry in this excellent series of illustrated children's books. In this volume, there's trouble brewing in the Bear family when Brother and Sister Bear start feuding. But, with a little helpful guidance from their caring parents, the sparring siblings learn some life lessons about fighting--and about making up.
This book pairs an easy-to-read text with colorful illustrations. These semi-human bears have an amusingly "cartoony" look to them, and the best of the book's illustrations contain delightful details. I especially love the pictures that show the Bears going through their daily routine--eating breakfast, riding the bus to school, etc. I give "The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight" an enthusiastic recommendation.

Get your dopey feet out of my face!!

A classic line from my childhood, hahahaha. I had forgotten until seeing the "look inside" image of that page!
I had a ton of these books as a child and I adored them. Most of the ones we had that I remember well are all the titles published around 1986-1987, which includes this one.
I actually got along very well with my older brother, but we sometimes annoyed each other so I related to this book very well.
I am looking all these up now to bookmark for any future children I might have... as trying to swipe all our childhood ones from my parents' house would probably result in another fight with my Brother Bear!
Fun tip for parents, for when your kids are a bit older (I was able to do this at 4-5-6 but depends on the kid)... My mom took some time to read this book (and some other Bears ones also!) aloud on tape, and she used a toy telephone BEEP as the "When you hear this sound, turn the page" sound. She marked all our books with a code (this one I believe had two gold star stickers on the cover... "Get the Gimmes" had three green stars, etc.) and the same stickers on the tape. So if she was busy doing dishes or cooking dinner, I could find the correct tape and listen to her read the book.
My mom is a genius, and I can't wait to make custom audio books (CDs maybe?) for my nieces & nephews & my own kids.
