About the Author
Bob Welch is the award-winning author of twelve books and the general columnist at The Register-Guard in Eugene, Oregon. He has served as an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Oregon in Eugene, and has had articles published in such magazines as Reader’s Digest, Sports Illustrated, Runner’s World, and Los Angeles. He is the founding director of the Beachside Writers Workshop, and has enlightened thousands across the country with his inspirational speaking.

Could't put it down!

As a combat veteran myself, I have always been intrigued by true stories of veterans from past wars. This book is different from so many others. This isn't a story of intense combat, but is a story of intense mental and physical battles, and some actual combat thrown in as well. Clay Connor Jr. showed the true american spirit and will power by refusing to surrender to the Japanese in the Philippines in 1942. Instead he undertook what was considered a suicide mission, by running to the mountains. For years he evaded Japanese patrols, traps and an ever increasing bounty on his head. Even more incredible, his work organizing and uniting pygmy tribes and Philippinos played a huge part in the success of the retaking of the islands. This book is riveting, I finished in two days. The writing is easy to follow and doesn't get to technical like many military books tend to do. I highly recommend it for any avid military reader, history buff, or for anyone who would enjoy a well written story of heroism, loyalty and the enduring American spirit.

A Great Book!

This is a great book! I didn't want to put it down until I reached the end and I was not disappointed.
Having heard and read about the Death March I thought I knew what to expect, but Bob Welch has told a story that took me into the jungles with Clay Conner Jr. and allowed me to experience life as Conner lived it.
This book reveals Conner's humanity, character and values in unimaginable situations as he endured almost three years of jungle-living. Words cannot express the admiration I have for Conner, and other soldiers like him. At the end of the book we are told that Conner was asked how he was able to survive when so many others had not? Conner wrote, "I had no answer for him..."
In his complicated jungle-world where one could not be sure who to trust, I was impressed by the life-long friendships that Conner developed with those he encountered.
This is a well-written book about perseverance, hope, respect and ... Resolve.

Resolve From The Jungles

This is an amazing story. It sounds like fiction but it is the real story of LT Conner and his escape into the Jungles of Bataan. You wonder how a man can have so many close calls and still go on. Living in a jungle for 34 months with no real hope of getting out alive. A story of all of the relationships he builds with not only other American soldiers but with the Filipino people and Pygmys. He learns their language and lives with them. A city boy turned Robinson Crusoe. All through the book you are pulling for this guy to make it. I won't give away the ending but it is a real page turner. Loved It! When is the movie coming out?
